After reading BE YOURSELF, I was inspired. The Learn to Lead sheets were extremely helpful, as I hung them around my desk where I could see them everyday. They not only helped me figure out WHAT I wanted to do, but how to be as successful as possible once I made my choice.
By following Joe's 8 principles, I was constantly reminded of the keys to finding my own success and the steps I needed to take there. Since reading Joe's book, my vision was to get a job in consulting. Coming from a small school, we did not have any recruiters from consulting firms coming to our career fairs. After filling out the "Dig a little deeper" worksheet, I realized that I was in control of making this happen. I had BELIEVED that since no recruiters came to my school, that I just would not get the job I wanted. Following Joe's 8 principles, I have not only secured the job I wanted, but have worked to better myself through exercise, philanthropy and leadership opportunities. I am very grateful!

On July 24, 2013, my plan was to go to a Tony Robbins event. I knew there would be other speakers, but wasn’t familiar with them. That changed when you came on the stage. Your passion for life captivated me within seconds, and I knew as I moved forward, you would be someone who would inspire me.
At the time of the seminar, I was heartbroken. Just six months before the seminar, my daughter Ainsley passed away in my arms from an unforeseen heart defect. By the time problem was found, there was too much damage done to her internal organs to recover. With that being said, I truly believe that life is not measured by physicality and time, but by impact. If you can find the positives from these situations, and continue to make an impact on their behalf, I firmly believe that life still remains. At some point, we all need to pass. You’ve helped me understand that until then, it’s important to live a life of passion. Since Ainsley’s passing, my wife and I have started a group in her name. In which we’ve been able to donate more than $25,000 and 1000 new toys Toronto’s SickKids Hospital. You have a lot to do with our success.
I’m an absolute advocate of your outlook on life. I could never THANK YOU enough.

I thought the book was terrific. Its about things we all know we should do, but rarely conscious of on a daily basis. I especially liked "Playing in Traffic," "Speaking from your heart" and "Don't be afraid to cry." Nicely written.

I appreciate your candor Joe.

Congratulations on the success of BYS. It really is a great book, and I’ve been recommending it to everyone I come across. I can only imagine the positive responses you’ve received, but I think you would be hard pressed to find someone who has taken your words to heart, and applied them in their life like I have.

I felt so uneasy about a lot of areas in my life, and I decided “Joe is right. It’s time to cut my own path!” I want to let you know that I’ve taken your advice, and in the last 6 months, here are some of the things I’ve done:
After 8 years, I realized that I wasn’t passionate about my work. I had a great job, with one of the “50 Best Employers in Canada”, but I had no passion for my work. I decided to save a safety-net fund, and leave.
After I handed in my letter of resignation, I was informed that I had won the Humanitarian of the year award for our company, which employs over 20,000 people. I was totally humbled. With the award came a $2000 cheque for the SickKids Foundation, and I was personally given a $2000 cheque that I decided to donate to the hospital as well.
My hometown is very similar to the way you described Trenton; a city that is rough around the edges, but has a ton of potential. As of late, I’ve noticed that there have been cranes in the air, and scaffold being put up everywhere. I noticed that the city’s revival is in full swing! I wanted to be a part of the economic upswing.
I decided to mix it up, and got in touch with a company that is responsible for a lot of the new ideas coming into the city. I was very honest with them, and told them that I’m not familiar with their line of work, but I would work for free if they would teach me about what they do as a company.
I know that if I show initiative, play in traffic and lead with my heart, at some point It will work out in my favor. I’ve been going to every networking event I can, and taking every opportunity I can to meet new people and mix it up. I have faith in this system. I’m already seeing great results!
Thank you, Mr. Plumeri. I know you encourage your readers to share their hearts, but without you taking the time and sharing yours first, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to share ours. Your impact has been so profound in my life.

Thank you, Joe, for sharing your inspirational stories, experiences, and themes. I particularly appreciated the stories of your family’s legacy in helping revitalize Trenton and the College of St. Rose. After reading your book, I was visiting relatives from Albany whose daughter graduated from the College of St. Rose. In talking with them, we discovered that my Albany relatives knew of you and of the Christian Plumeri Sports Complex that you established, as they had attended your commencement speech. Last year, I was inspired when you visited our Melville site at First Data and you expressed your passion to help our customers grow their businesses. Now, one year later, I was further inspired by reading your book, and I appreciate that you have shared your personal experiences and game-plan for success.

Great book Joe. This just proved to me what I've always said, " You can't change the way people think about you! But only you can change how you think about them"
This book has inspired me as a Business Troubelshooter.
Cheers,
Vince

Review of the Book:
“The Power of Being Yourself” By Joe Plumeri
The author has opened his heart and soul in this book; expressing the importance of “Being Your-self” by his life experience. Keeping the suffering & the success in his mind and using that as a lever to focus on doing the right thing. It is a good reference book.
Here in below, I have listed a few memorable experiences and the actions taken by the author; that has impressed me very much and lingered in mind for a while even after finishing the book.
• Nesting all his net-worth for bringing Base-ball team to Trenton by following his heart, keeping his promise of helping his Dad and ignoring his business mind. That investment turned to be one of his best investments monetarily and socially.
• Honestly expressing his mistake of not spending enough time with his son Chris, losing him and living with a void in his heart and using that experience as an important lesson, sincerely suggesting the readers not to make the same mistake.
• Joe visited the Chairman of Willis in London, England, without an interest to take-up the job, but when Chairman said that “KKR should not hire you”----- Why-Not? With a challenge Joe took the job, brought openness in the Company, grew the Company and in the process re-named the Tallest American Building with 108 floors (formerly known as Sears Tower) as THE WILLIS TOWER in Chicago.
• Speaking with heart as a tele printer, Joe connected with the people and preached to follow one’s passion. The Passion as emotion with purpose and being obsessed.
I have kept the book handy for reading again. I suggest everyone should read this book.
I extend my sincere thanks and congratulations to Joe Plumeri for this well written book.

So I literally just finished the book. And gave myself about 5 minutes before I impulsively decided to post something! Story of my life doing things once they popped into my head. As it turns out I may have had some great ideas in my life and although I tried but failed with my ventures. I did learn one major thing from Joe's lessons. HAVE PASSION! As I think back to all the things I did. They were for all the wrong reasons. I was just thinking about what I was going to get out of the deal and not what I could give. So eventually I started to give up on all my ideas because they never really panned out for me. Over the last year and a half I have really been focused on changing my negative attitude because I have let friends and family out of my life because I don't put in any effort. Thanks Joe! I really need to take a long hard look at my life and invoke some passion up in here!
Mellisa :)
